General Description:

The participant will learn the tools for passing and protecting one’s assets.

Learning Objective:

After completing this course the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the benefits of a revocable living trust.
  • Discuss the various documents needed to plan for a client's incapacity such as a power of attorney, guardianship designation, and a living will.
  • Summarize the asset protection benefits of insurance, gifting, and retirement planning.
  • Explain to clients the benefits of charging order to protected entities such as LLCs and limited partnerships.
  • Analyze fraudulent conveyance issues.
  • Compare offshore asset protection trusts, domestic asset protection trusts, and hybrid asset protection trusts and identify when each would be the most appropriate tool for protecting wealth.

Instructors:

S. Blake Harris is the founder and managing attorney at Mile High Estate Planning, where he assists clients with wills and trusts, asset protection, and probate. Previously he worked at one of the nation's largest wealth management firms where he helped high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients plan for the transfer of their assets. He earned his J.D. and undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Florida and is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Florida. He has given many presentations and continuing education seminars to CPAs, financial advisors, and attorneys; has been quoted by ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox News, Denver Post, and MarketWatch; and was named a “Rising Star” for 2020 by Super Lawyers.
