General Description:

This course satisfies the two hours of CR&R required for Colorado CPAs in some situations, and also can count toward the four hours of ethics required every two years. Practitioners will gain not only an overview of Colorado's statutory and regulatory environment as it affects the practice of CPAs, but also an appreciation of the vital role the State Board of Accountancy plays in implementing and enforcing CPA practice rules. This course is updated to comply with the new specific requirements of the Colorado State Board of Accountancy to qualify for the Colorado Rules and Regulations CPE requirement.

Learning Objective:

After completing this course the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of the Colorado State Board of Accountancy.
  • Describe the overall statutory framework of the accountancy law in Colorado.
  • Compare the Colorado Accountancy statutes, rules, and policies to the federal regulatory environment.
  • Discuss new or updated statutes, rules, or policies related to accountancy in Colorado.
  • Identify professional standards within the rules.
  • Identify provisions that are key to maintaining a CPA license (i.e., continuing education and filing license renewal applications on a timely basis for individuals and firms).
  • Describe top ways to avoid unwanted interaction with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy.

Instructors:

Scott R. Saltzman, CPA, CVA, ASA, ABV, MAFF, of Saltzman, LLC, specializes in economic damages, business valuations, forensic accounting, and professional malpractice. Mr. Saltzman served on the Colorado State Board of Accountancy 1999-2007 and the Colorado Securities Board 2010-2016. He served on NACVA’s Valuations Board 1996-1999 and Executive Advisory Board 1999-2002, and was president of NACVA 2002-2016.
