General Description:

Now that you have worked with your client to build a successful business, they are now considering selling the business and retiring. It is time to advise your client on the need for an exit plan. To sell a business, it must first be sellable. By the conclusion of this workshop, the participants will be able to advise their clients on identifying the optimal exit strategy for them, evaluating potential buyers, and negotiating the best price possible. As an alternative to selling the business, participants will also learn how to prepare a detailed succession plan for those business owners that want to transfer the business to a family member or employee.

Learning Objective:

After completing this course the participant will be able to advise seasoned entrpreneurs how to:

  • Prepare an exit strategy from the business.
  • Identify the optimal exit strategy.
  • Develop a pricing methodology.
  • Vet potential buyers.
  • Plan for succession if the business will be transferred to a family member or employee.

Instructors:

Todd Mata has more than 25 years of experience working on tax and accounting issues for numerous Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. He received a J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago Law School and LL.M. in Taxation from DePaul University of Chicago College of Law and an undergraduate accounting degree from Purdue University. He is also a CPA licensed in Illinois, Colorado, and Texas and teaches part-time in the accounting department at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
